Thickness Guide

How to understand mylar bag thickness

Mylar bag thickness is commonly discussed in microns or mils, but thickness alone does not define packaging performance. A pouch can feel thick but still have weak barrier performance if the material structure is not suitable for the product. The total film thickness should be considered together with oxygen barrier, moisture barrier, light protection, sealing layer, pouch size, filling weight, and storage conditions.

Common flexible packaging structures include PET / PE, PET / VMPET / PE, PET / AL / PE, kraft paper / VMPET / PE, and recyclable MDOPE / PE. PET is often used as the outer printing layer, VMPET or aluminum foil can improve barrier performance, and PE is commonly used as the inner heat-sealing layer.

Use the converter to compare micron and mil values, then review the actual packaging structure before production. For custom mylar bags, it is best to test filling volume, sealing strength, zipper performance, shelf appearance, and product protection before confirming final production specifications.
